One of the professors at my university went around giving us color swatches and told us to make valentines day cards to dispay, and to “Make it Sexy.” Who could be sexier than Honest Abe?

I plan to make a series of Sexy Presidents as prints. I’ll set up an Etsy when the project is done.

Web II—Assignment 1

This assignment requires that I find and select 15 websites that i find an interesting element or elements in. 5 of these must be professional websites. Here are my listings:

Professional

1. http://www.sagmeisterwalsh.com/ —I am drawn to this website because it has the look and feel of a printed document emulated on screen. There’s also an interesting ticker down at the bottom left of the page with a few silly quotes that cycle. The rule at the bottom of the page is very elegant, and the way the nav bar sticks to the top of the page even when scrolling is interesting.

2. http://www.allcaps.cc/#page-0 —Joe Stewart’s website displays his portfolio and tells a story about him all in one scrolling session. No links, just words and images.

3. http://youngjerks.com/ —This website is very clean other than the bands in the background that can be a bit distracting. The typeface fits the theme well with its weight matching that of the rest of Cassaro’s website elements and other work. The website is also responsive with an expandable menu when viewed in a smaller size.

4. http://www.estudiominga.com/ —The splash screen on this site is awesome, and the website is responsive. It’s very clean and efficient. Also, the navigation in the portfolio has an interesting sorting function.

5. http://www.designwithdirection.com/ —This design studio’s website has a really cool time-lapse video that plays as the background image on the home page. Although I’m sure this increases the load time, it’s an interesting feature that draws attention to itself. Does it detract from the other content too much though?

Arbitrary

6. http://www.awwwards.com/ —The way that the nav buttons are ‘blocked’ are very intriguing and clean-looking. The entire nav layout is efficient.

7. http://www.davidoreilly.com/ —This website is very simple, but has a lot of great content. The nav is easily navigable.

8. https://www.helloalfred.com/ —Hello Alfred’s color scheme is well balanced. The navigation that hits predetermined areas on one page is interesting too.

9. http://madebyfieldwork.com/ —This website has a neat splash animation, and simple navigation. It’s also dynamic!

10. http://p–m.co/ —The physics animation on the splash screen is eye-catching. The physics react to the screen size as well. Only issue is that it crashes very easily.

11. http://www.fellswoop.com/ —A clean, dynamic website. It has some very nice icons and graphics.

12. http://www.macrabbit.com/ —This one has an interesting set of icons for its navigation. It’s also very clean, but not dynamic.

13. http://www.koko3.fi/ —The website here has an interesting, textured, material theme. The backgrounds on the front page are able to be changed as well.

14. http://www.creativespaces.net.au/ —The shapes of the divs and their textured backgrounds are interesting. I also find the top nav area to be really cool.

15. http://www.mball.cz/ —This final website has really cool graphic elements and an interactive and engaging navigation. It unfortunately is not dynamic in design.

Web II

This is the start of the semester and Web II requires me to make a blog on WordPress. Then, we’re going to find sites that we see as inspirational and submit them to the class for evaluation.

How To Make Friends With Monsters—Kinetic Typography

A kinetic typography project that teaches you how to deal with life’s monsters.

The intention of this video is to take something rather dour and make it fun. A nice vintage educational film feel does just the trick.

12.03.14

I updated a few of my previous posts with more, and better images if anyone was interested.

12.03.14

A creature that was designed as a base for a series of monsters that would represent different typefaces.

The single print that will be made will be housed in a single black cube that was printed also on a 3D printer.

12.01.14

The last semester of school. So far I have to finish my professional website, a kinetic typography video, the cover for my wacom tablet pen, and a presentation for little monsters that relate to fonts that will fit in a box. I really have quite a bit to finish it seems.
